Collegiate Relations

Responsibilities of Collegiate Relations

The Vice President of Collegiate Relations assists local collegiate chapters and provides for an exchange of benefits between the professional and collegiate chapters. He/she is responsible for chairing the collegiate relations committee and ensuring that it accomplishes the following.

  • Establish contact with the marketing departments of the colleges and universities in the chapter area.Coordinate with the collegiate chapters' faculty advisors.
  • Serve as liaison between the professional chapter and the collegiate chapters, as well as between the Professional Chapters and the Collegiate Chapters Departments at AMA International Headquarters.
  • Help to establish collegiate chapters at local universities and colleges.Assess and improve incentives for forming collegiate chapters.
  • Help the collegiate chapters organize, develop and conduct programs.
  • Invite collegiate chapter members to professional chapter meetings.
  • Attend collegiate chapter meetings. (May be a member of the collegiate chapter's Board of Directors.)
  • Understand AMA policies for student and bridge memberships.
General Responsibilities of all Board Members

The Board of Directors is the official governing body of the chapter and manages all business and property of the chapter. Most importantly, Board members should enjoy their service and build meaningful relationships with their peers and marketers across the country. Plus, attend events at no charge.
  • Promote the ideals and goals of AMA.
  • Do not reinvent the wheel but take advantage of resources provided by the AMA network.
  • Manage chapter affairs with the president and other officers.
  • Attend monthly board meetings, which are 2 hours in length each and held in Waltham and downtown Boston.
  • Serve on one or more committees, whose work is done between board meetings.
  • Help make chapter policy.
  • Advise the president and other officers.
  • Help plan and/or review the annual chapter budget and plan.
  • Coordinate with other officers, directors and committee chairs as needed.
  • Support membership drives and spread the word about events.
  • The general board has no required role in fundraising.
  • Members of the Board serve for at least one year.
  • Three consecutive absences may mean dismissal from board, at discretion of board.
