Sara Scarborough Graham, VP of Communications

With nine years of experience, Sara Scarborough Graham directs the marketing department at Northland Investment Corporation, a privately held, fully integrated real estate company. Her responsibilities include strategic planning, brand management, public relations, and oversight of all firm marketing activities.

Previously, Sara managed the public relations and brand development efforts for Berkshire Mortgage Finance, a commercial mortgage firm. Sara was first exposed to the real estate industry at Spaulding & Slye Colliers, a real estate services and investment company, where she coordinated various community relations programs for large-scale development projects. She started her career at Arnold Public Relations, a division of Arnold Worldwide.

Sara earned a BA in English from Colby College and an MA in Integrated Marketing Communication from Emerson College. A member of the American Marketing Association since September 2006, she is also a member of Boston Women Communicators, BAYREP (Boston Area Young Real Estate Professionals) and the Junior League of Boston.

Responsibilities of the VP of Communications

  • Manage the communications calendar.
  • Create and send email blasts.
  • Develop a publicity program with measurable results for the year.
  • Contact the appropriate media in the chapter area. Develop a media list and keep it current.
  • Prepare and distribute news releases on speakers, meetings, members and chapter affairs.
  • Maintain a permanent file of all news releases as part of the chapter's historical record.
  • Work with the Board and committee chairs to generate news releases.

General Responsibilities of all Board Members

The Board of Directors is the official governing body of the chapter and manages all business and property of the chapter. Most importantly, Board members should enjoy their service and build meaningful relationships with their peers and marketers across the country. Plus, attend events at no charge.

  • Promote the ideals and goals of AMA.
  • Do not reinvent the wheel but take advantage of resources provided by the AMA network.
  • Manage chapter affairs with the president and other officers.
  • Attend monthly board meetings, which are 2 hours in length each and held in Waltham and downtown Boston.
  • Serve on one or more committees, whose work is done between board meetings.
  • Help make chapter policy.
  • Advise the president and other officers.
  • Help plan and/or review the annual chapter budget and plan.
  • Coordinate with other officers, directors and committee chairs as needed.
  • Support membership drives and spread the word about events.
  • The general board has no required role in fundraising.
  • Members of the Board serve for at least one year.
  • Three consecutive absences may mean dismissal from board, at discretion of board.
