Responsibilities of the Immediate Past PresidentThe immediate past president serves as a Board of Directors member for one year immediately following the presidency. The involvement of the immediate past president is essential for a smooth transition in chapter management and operation.Their advice helps the chapter avoid making the same mistakes each year.
- Advise the president.
- Serve on the Board of Directors.
- Perform special assignments as directed by the president.
- Assume the responsibilities common to all officers and directors.
- Oversee the completion of the Year-End Financial Report and send to AMA International Headquarters by date required (August).
- Prepare the chapter for the following year by appointing a nominating committee for the election of chapter officers.
- Recruit leaders and volunteers for your chapter.They know many of your members and are familiar with your chapter's needs.
- Work with the Secretary in preparing the Chapter Excellence Awards entry.
- Assume the responsibilities common to all board members.
The Board of Directors is the official governing body of the chapter and manages all business and property of the chapter. Most importantly, Board members should enjoy their service and build meaningful relationships with their peers and marketers across the country. Plus, attend events at no charge.
- Promote the ideals and goals of AMA.
- Do not reinvent the wheel but take advantage of resources provided by the AMA network.
- Manage chapter affairs with the president and other officers.
- Attend monthly board meetings, which are 2 hours in length each and held in Waltham and downtown Boston.
- Serve on one or more committees, whose work is done between board meetings.
- Help make chapter policy.
- Advise the president and other officers.
- Help plan and/or review the annual chapter budget and plan.
- Coordinate with other officers, directors and committee chairs as needed.
- Support membership drives and spread the word about events.
- The general board has no required role in fundraising.
- Members of the Board serve for at least one year.
- Three consecutive absences may mean dismissal from board, at discretion of board.
