Cecil Dorman, VP of Sponsorships
Cecil Dorman is a Client Partner at BigBad, Inc., an interactive strategy firm developing large-scale, mission-critical web sites and web applications. Prior to joining BigBad, Cecil was a partner in the brand strategy firm of Sheaff Dorman Purins, Inc.
Cecil was born in Memphis, TN and holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Advertising Design from Syracuse University.
Responsibilities of the VP of Sponsorship
The Vice President of Sponsorship identifies chapter needs that may be supported by corporate sponsorship and coordinates programs to involve the business community in chapter affairs.He/she is responsible for chairing the sponsorship committee and ensuring that it accomplishes the following.
- Work with other committee chairs to determine their needs, such as underwriting an event, soliciting location sponsors, and providing direct or in-kind donations
- Work with committee chairs to develop sponsorship plans for specific events or activities
- Develop a corporate sponsorship list, update it often and contact businesses for support
- Keep accurate records of all donations and in-kind support and report activity monthly to the treasurer.
- Develop a plan to acknowledge sponsors and send regular "Thank You's" to supporting organizations
- Monitor sponsor support to avoid conflicts of interest, and review chapter operating policies to make sure all chapter obligations to sponsors are met
- Maintain the Sponsorship section of the chapter website and coordinate sponsor promotions with the VP of Communication and VP of Internet Services
General Responsibilities of all Board Members
The Board of Directors is the official governing body of the chapter and manages all business and property of the chapter. Most importantly, Board members should enjoy their service and build meaningful relationships with their peers and marketers across the country. Plus, attend events at no charge.
- Promote the ideals and goals of AMA.
- Do not reinvent the wheel but take advantage of resources provided by the AMA network.
- Manage chapter affairs with the president and other officers.
- Attend monthly board meetings, which are 2 hours in length each and held in Waltham and downtown Boston.
- Serve on one or more committees, whose work is done between board meetings.
- Help make chapter policy.
- Advise the president and other officers.
- Help plan and/or review the annual chapter budget and plan.
- Coordinate with other officers, directors and committee chairs as needed.
- Support membership drives and spread the word about events.
- The general board has no required role in fundraising.
- Members of the Board serve for at least one year.
- Three consecutive absences may mean dismissal from board, at discretion of board.
